Corporate Ownership and Natural Food
Who owns the natural food industry?
The organic industry represents the fastest growing segment of U.S. agriculture, expanding at a red-hot 20% for eight years running, with no ceiling in sight. It should be noted that not all organic consolidation has been bad.
Organic Valley, for instance, is farmer owned and operated - a great success story for a co-op of seven farmers who began their operation in 1988. They now cooperate with over 500 organic farms across the country.
